After non-stop rain for two days, the sun came out for two amazing hours as the team from Treasure Island Holiday Park joined Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 3 March. Items collected from the local creek and parkland included eight shopping trolleys, two sharps containers, five golf balls, five bags of recyclables and 14 bags of general rubbish.
Park manager Brendan was happy with his purchase of a small four-pronged boat anchor, which made great grappling hooks for wrestling trolleys and other rubbish from the water.
A few staff members learnt what a water dragon was and how quickly they are able to move! The team all agreed that plastic bags should be banned, as they were the number one item recovered from the waterway, which ultimately leads down the creek and into the Broadwater/ocean.
